By Pond Frog Within a week of purchase, this pool cover came apart at the seam. However we have moderate to high winds and they had their way with this cover within a week. If your pool is protected from wind, this cover might do fine for you. Pool water was not low and had good level, filled past skimmer and outtake which were plugged, cover put on equally on all sides and tightened down well with the cable. We have tried all kinds of pool covers, expensive to cheap, placing the plastic wrapping on edges, etc and all the same result. They never last a season before torn and tattered, this one didn't last a week. NOTE: This year, 2011, I am trying the "mesh" cover sold here on Amazon through In The Swim. I am hoping that the winds wont lift, billow and up blow under this cover and rip or shred it like other covers have always done. It was promptly delivered to my door in just a couple days and very pleased with the quality and perfect generous size. Easy to install full system to heat your pool with free heat from the sun. A full 4` x 20` panel rather than the Sungrabbers which are 2 x 2` x 20`. 2" header for better flow. All that is required is the linear footage of hoses to connect to your pump. Some pool owners place the panel close and require only a few feet of hoses and others will install in the roof and require several feet of hose. This system must be taken down in the winter if roof mounted as it does not completely drain and will freeze - voiding the warranty - must be stored indoors for the winter. On a sunny day in the mid-80's it will raise the pool temp at least 5 degrees, that's on a 24ft round pool of 13,500 gallons. So, two days in a row will raise it about 10 degrees. We are swimming while the neighbors are sitting it out. My husband did build a raised structure for it to sit on since we didn't want it on the ground. It faces south, the angle can be adjusted, and he covered it with chicken wire. Before the chicken wire was added we had trouble with cats climbing on it and it also blew off in a storm. We haven't had to put it away for the winter yet; that will be another adventure. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Nice but... By T. Nelson I purchased the Fafco Solar Bear pool heater last season. I only purchased one panel for my 15x30 oval pool figuring it would heat my pool about 5-6 degrees which is adequate for my needs. Sure enough, on sunny days it raised the pool temperature about 6 degrees. Installation was fairly easy; however, the downside to the solar panel is that it must sit out in the sun to to heat the panel enough to ease rolling or unrolling the panel. I used a couple of sand bags to hold the panel open. Rolling up the panel in the fall was a bit of a challenge for the same reason as above and required two of us to roll and strap it for storage. This season upon startup, I noticed a leak in the panel. Fortunately, a spot of hot glue has temporarily fixed the leak and and more care with installation should prevent leaks in the future. Setup was relatively easy but you do need a helping hand (my 13 y.o. helped me) and there are some things you should be aware of before you purchase it. 1. If you purchase the 18' X 9' X 52" pool with saltwater filter, you'll need 115 pounds of salt which cost me $30.00 at a local pool supply store. I bought 4 bags (each bag weighed 40 pounds) and used slightly less than 3 to start the system. You'll need to add more salt occasionally (30 pounds or so) when the code on the filter tells you to do so. 2. 5-6 feet of free space is required around the perimeter of the pool. (I didn't have this space available and had to change my desired location for the pool.) This is because the U-shaped metal supports, attached to the top rail, lay flat on the ground outwardly during setup. Then you pick the top rail off the ground which makes the U-shaped supports slide into place. This starts holding the pool up and in place. Your helper then attaches the pool liner to the bottom of each support. I hope this makes sense. You definitely need that extra space around the pool! 3. Your area should be very level. Take the time to clear rocks that could puncture the liner and to prep the area well. Salt water chlorine generating filter system, it works well "so far". 2. Some of the included accessories pole, skimmer, brush, leaf net & vacuum are decent quality & would be a significant additional cost if you had to go to the pool center and pick it all up at one time. 3. Amazon price, with shipping included beat the closest competitor by about 300$ at least at the time of my purchase. Whats Bad: 1. The Liner seeps at the corner seems. At each corner of the pool several pieces of the liner are seemed or welded together. The leaking seems three of the four have seeped/leaked since I put the pool up. The seems are wet & small puddles and/or wet spots always exist at the corners of the pool 2. The ladder is an accident waiting to happen it is very flimsy. The cost of a quality ladder or set of pool stair should be considered 250-500$ on eBay 3. Volley ball set is poor quality, this is not a big deal to me. 4. I think the description said you need to add some salt for the chlorine generator to work. I was surprised to find out I needed to add 115 pound of salt. It can be purchased at the pool store for 20-30$. Not a big deal just a big surprise. 5. Buttons seem to stick when setting filter hours and the timer is very rudimentary. I have some concern about the button problem as it might indicate that the system is not that robust. Only time will tell for sure. Conclusion: I considered sending the pool back due to the liner issue but the pool was set up filled with water & 115 pounds of salt. If the liner fails I guess my only hope is that it does so while it is still under warranty. Again only time will tell. It was pretty simple to set up except for the top corners. We thought they needed to be tight with the rods but they are just loose in there and flex when the pool water moves. The saltwater system is easy to use. My buttons aren't sticking. I had a hard time finding the right salt and ended up buying 50 little boxes of table salt and that took awhile to dump in. Then, the alarm went off and had a code 92 which means too much salt. So, after going to 5 stores to get enough salt, now I'm draining the pool that I just filled to get rid of the salt. Make sure you go by the 18 foot RECTANGLE pool for the amount of salt to add. Anyway, now it is fine. I love the pump. It keeps the water so

Everything I'd hoped for By Max Power When we bought our house, we knew ahead of time that the existing (2.5HP) pump was on its last legs. Sure enough, when we did the final inspection on the day of closing, the old pump had blown the circuit breaker, and our new neighbor told us it had been making a horrific noise for the past couple of days. I ordered the VS3050 from Amazon because it was eligible for Amazon Prime (!!) and so I was able to get it delivered quickly. We had also considered the SVRS model, but after checking the pool drain configuration (minimum of 2 drains in both pool and spa, at least 4 feet apart) we felt we could save some money with the VS-3050. We did the installation ourselves with little trouble. The manual and a sticker indicate that when attaching the inlet and outlets, you should go only one turn past hand tight, in our experience it needed a little more to prevent leaking, but that may have been due to our PVC. We were able to re-use the wiring from the pump we removed, so there was no electric work to speak of. We don't have an automation system right now so we just placed the included control cable in storage. This pump is incredibly quiet. The only sound you hear is the fan (which cools the motor). At its highest speed, you'll also hear water moving through the pipes - but the motor is unbelievably quiet. Our pump is about 6 feet off of our lanai, and we don't hear it at all - only when the water begins flowing over the waterfall on the spa do we realize the pump is on. It is far more energy efficient than the pump it replaced, checking the amperage at the box it seems to use about 45% of the power the old one used at roughly the same GPM. The control panel is very easy to use, and the unit seems very well built - I anticipate it being many years before we have to replace anything on this. I'd done a lot of research before picking the Pentair IntelliFlo series. Some of my friends thought I was nuts for spending this kind of cash on a pool pump (a new, standard 2.5HP can be had for a bit more than half the price of the VS3050) but seeing it in action, I'm very comfortable with my purchase. Shah Our utility PG&E, charges high summer rates - 43 to 48 c/ kwh at the top end. Along with rebates, there is increasing incentive to reduce energy costs. At 6hrs / day my old 2HP pump was using about 10 kwh/day or $4-5 /day. Even if I cut that in half, I would save $2-3 per day (5 kwh/day). With solar PV, I would need around 1kw system to get the same saving at installed cost of $7,000-8,000/kw. Installed cost of variable speed pump appeared to be around $1,500. 5x faster paybak than solar PV ! Well, that was the theory. I soon realized that integrating the VS-3050 pool pump with my existing pool automation system (ComPool 3000, solar heater, spa, pool cleaner) could be a challenge. If I had to replace the automation system, it would cost two to three times more. Luckily, there was an option to get IntelliComm-II interface (around $200) to integrate VS-3050 with my existing ComPool 3000. But the local installers were not confident about the installation and its costs, schedule and Warranty. Pentair itself was very helpful : (I) Warranty was not an issue if I purchased a new VS-3050 from Amazon. (II) IntelliComm-II interface would allow integration with ComPool-3000. (III) the combination qualified as title 20 system for PG&E rebates. The pump arrived promptly from Amazon. Automation interface arrived soon after. Pump and interface physical installation went smoothly. There was a problem with wiring harness (RJ-12) on the shipped interface adapter - so I needed help from Pentair tech support. Harhager We looked at getting a "real" pool but couldn't justify the cost. This arrived quickly and was complete. We did pay the extra to have the site prepared, we have a pretty good slope to our yard and really did not like the idea of all of that digging. Once the water compacted the soil, there is still a very minor dip at one end, only about one inch difference total but enough to notice with the water level. I personally don't think that is possible to have dirt completely level. Be sure to check for stones, even a few inches down from the surface. The weight of the water will accent these bumps pretty well. I had read other reviews that said it was a pain to put up and with three small kids, we opted for a pool installer to set it up. Wish we hadn't. It was Lincoln logs, easy as pie to put together. You definitely need two or more people though. The pieces fit together easily but snugly, especially once the water started going in. The kids have a tendency to hang on the sides as they adjust goggles and whatnot, but it is fine. We did upgrade the ladder to one with a bigger platform and a gate for the kids' safety. The pump is wonderful. We had a 12' round with the most pitiful pump the year before. We had algae and sediment problems all summer. It was a serious pain. This pump actually moves a lot of water. I had purchased a used PoolFrog system from Ebay and put that in line with the pump. One mineral cartridge a season, and one BacPac every 6 weeks, and I swear that I never had to add a single thing all summer. The water was clear and beautiful every day. The cleaning kit that came with pool works great too. The skimmer and vacuum really get the sand and grass off the bottom. It never looked bad until I was done sweeping, then I looked at what it picked up. Yuck! I had to sweep about two or three times over the season, simply because of grass stuck to feet and things. Honestly, we love it. It is big enough for several kids and a few adults, it isn't obnoxious blue, and I get to spend more time IN my pool, than MAINTAINING my pool. Don't follow the enclosed directions for winterizing. You will crack the plunger valves like we did. A cheap fix though, $30 for two new valves and it is as good as new. We live in NE Ohio and left it up for the winter with a chemical kit in it before and it was fine. The solar cover that comes with it is sad. Upgrade to a bubble one. That's it. We love it. Couldn't be happier. ****It is now more than halfway into the second season and the pool is still great. We actually added a solar heater to the pool this year and the pump works fine with it. Our local pool store tried to tell us the pump wasn't strong enough to push the water through the heater and the frog but it is fantastic. We actually have to turn the pump off sometimes to keep the water from getting too warm. The vacuum works with the heater intalled also. Our first intex frame pool (15') lasted three years. Mice found it the last winter and I decided to throw it out rather than patch all the holes and scrub the mess. This 18' pool is in its second year. Better hose attachments make it even easier to care for. The skimmer works great, the filter is easy to spray clean with a hose every couple of days, so I don't have to keep replacing with new ones. I have a saltwater system which is also trouble-free (although it took me awhile to get the hang of it). Since I'm now a pro at assembling and taking apart these pools, it takes me only a few hours, all by myself. When my husband pitches in, it goes even more quickly. I have absolutely no complaints... totally worth the investment, since it's probably going to last another 3

By Renee Spindle I actually bought one of these lights off the clearance rack at Big Lots for only 10 bucks. I figured if it didn't work no worries. What a great little light! I have a 13' x 25' x 48" Splash Superpool. This little light illuminates the pool perfectly. The kids are totally enjoying the night swimming. I placed the light near the ladder on the end of the pool. It is fairly bright all the way to the centerline, and then starts to fade toward the far end. The kids like it this way, as they can swim to the "dark side" when they want. We can see the bottom of the pool completely so this makes it safer for the kids at night. It is an LED light, so it should last a long time. I made the mistake of leaving it in the pool over winter, and thought it might be ruined. After cleaning the pool and light to get it ready for this summer, I plugged it in and it worked fine. By Skeeter Hater Well, my old solar panels sprung leaks, and could not be plugged. I tried to order similar size and brand, but they all have been replaced with these smaller size units. They may be easier to handle, but they are much smaller and you need more space to get the same surface area. I'm trying out various configurations to get better heat out of just 2 units, by enclosing the units in an insulated greenhouse type box. I'll let you know how it works. Even though I have a pool that is much larger than the Savior is designed to support I bought it in hope of being able to reduce the use of my pool pump. In my case this does not fully replace my pool equipment but is a great addition that can reduce the time spent running the filter and manually cleaning. Because this floats in the pool and the filters are mounted underneath it does not clean items floating on the surface as a skimmer does. Also it cannot help clean things that have settled to the bottom so you will still need an automatic pool sweep or to manually swep. What it really does well is clean the items suspended in the water, it seems that the spinning action can help disrupt the water aiding the cleaning process. Note that on sunny days if as much as 10% of the panel is blocked from the direct sun the pump will slow or stop. On cloudy days this seems to be less of a problem. Initially I found this was getting hung up in the floating hose for my pool sweep. I adjusted the 90' elbow on the pump outlet so it spins more in place and this seemed to fix the problem. This also helped prevent it from getting hung up on the rocks on the edge of my pool. I have noticed that the water in the pool has cleared up quite a bit after 5 days of use despite several windy days and a little rain. So far I am happy with my purchase. It would be better if there were a slight redesign to perform some skimming action and I would like to see a higher volume model for my large pool. ____________________________________ UPDATE After a few months I continue to be quite happy with the solar cleaner. I have cleaned the paper filters a few times, they really do pick up quite a bit of very fine particles. In my situation I think about once a month will be about right to clean the filters. I just recently had a small problem with the pump on the unit acting up, I used the Natural Current web site to submit the support request, I received an immediate call back providing great support. They demonstrated a very strong customer service attitude and a strong desire to make sure I was happy with the product and any issues quickly resolved. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Easily handling my 35k gallon pool. By Paul Mccollum I've had my original filter system off for 6 weeks now and my pool is still crystal clear. My backyard isn't that big so there are sun obstructions early morning and evening but the unrelenting texas sun is able to drive this little guy to its maximum potential. The high efficiency panel runs the filter in excess of 6 hours each day. It's half the size of my 60W hobby panels. I'm going to try and upload a picture to show it's size and the quality of my pool water with just a single Savior taking care of my 35000 gallon pool. They are only rated for 11k gallons. If i see any cloudiness i will gladly pick up another one. It has already 1/4th paid for itself in electricity savings. That's not including the cracked pipes i don't have to use/repair anymore nor the water we were wasting from the cracks. It isn't small but it takes up less room than having an extra inflatable mattress in your pool. It doesn't hurt a thing to take it out of the pool while you are using it. Once not in direct sunlight it just goes to sleep. The motor is amazing, it pushes a jacuzzi-jet-strong column of water straight down. This jet ends up doing a good job of pushing any debris on the bottom of the shallow end down to the deep end reducing my vacuuming chore by half. I can't wait to see what accessories they come up with that might work from that. It's practically silent, I can only hear when i swim under it. If i'm not in the pool i have to touch it to be sure it's working. Love it, my only wish is that it would mow the lawn too. 5 of 5 people found the following review
